Bárbara Perea is a Mexico City-based critic and curator. From 2003 to 2006, she was director of MUCA Roma in Mexico City (University Museum of Science and Art) where she curated and organized numerous exhibitions. With Príamo Lozada, she was artistic director of Plataforma Puebla 2006, and co-curator of the Mexican Pavilion at the 52nd Venice Biennial, which presented “Some Things Happen More Often Than All of the Time,” a solo exhibit by Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. With Guillermo Santamarina she curated Soni(c)loud” for the experimental music and sound festival Radar (April, 2007) and prepared the opening exhibition and acquisitions program for Laberinto de las Ciencias y las Artes, in San Luis Potosí. She served on the selection committee for FAIR PLAY Video Festival (Berlin, 2006), and on the nomination committee for the 2008 Rockefeller-Tribeca Media Fellowships.

Perea is a lecturer in New Media at CENTRO University in Mexico City, and lectures on Curatorial Practice, New Media Art and Sound Art in diverse academic environments. She has published over fifty reviews and essays in Dónde ir (Mexico City), Artecontexto (Madrid), and Art Lies (Houston), among others, and contributed to exhibition catalogues including Plataforma Puebla 2006 (Puebla, 2006), Arnulf Rainer: la imagen equivocada (Mexico, 2007) Rafael Lozano-Hemmer: Some Things Happen More Often Than All of The Time (Madrid, 2007).
